'Stuarts Well'....Dinky the singing Dingo!

On our way back to Alice Springs we just had to stop at Stuarts Well on the off chance of meeting the infamous Dinky the singing Dingo....we not only met him but the kids got to play for him.

Bells was a very brave lass when Jim, dinkys owner said "You can not pat Dinky as he might bite but if he chooses to sniff you, or lick your face....just let him".  She did!  Dinky had us all in stitches. He just hops on up on the keys as soon as he hears the music - no encouragement from Jim. He then proceeds to stamp up and down on the keys and howls to his hearts content.  He's a very old Dingo now though....not too many years left in his show I'd say.  We feel blessed to have met him.

Back In Alice Springs.... late May, early June

Breaking News.....It is with a heavy heart that Mama has to stop her adventures and take a short break in Alice Springs hospital...her leg needs a bit of TLC (old injury).  Please don't worry fellow readers, she is fine and is secretly loving the break we think.  It was an experience sitting with Mum for the five and a half hours in Emergency....wow, what an active Emergency.  I have never seen anything like it!!!

After spending a few days frequenting the Alice Springs library (taking advantage of their change over to a digital system meaning the disposal of loadddddssss of books - the librarians were encouraging us to take as many as we could) we headed out to Ormiston Gorge.
First stop the Reptile Centre in Alice..... very relaxed centre.
Barry The Olive Python

The kids loved getting up close and personal with the reptiles.  Spencer the goanna was free to roam where ever he wanted....so cool.

Neil Hargraeves Rest Area

This was a magical place to rest on the way to Glen Helen gorge and Ormiston Gorge.  The 360 degree view of the sunset was breath taking.  Another night of cooking dinner over the fire.  Nick and Toli ventured far and wide for fire wood here.

First stop - Ochre Pits - June 2 ish

The ochre pits is on of the only places that the three colours used are easily found.....I am a little rusty on facts and am hurriedly just trying to bring us up to date so will let the photos do the talking.

Bells dot drawing with ochre.

Glen Helen Gorge.....

This is somewhere that Nick had heard a lot about and was very keen to see it.  After a short trek out to it we were a little let down by the end sight - maybe we were becoming 'Gorged out'.  The freezing cold wind could have something to do with it also

Bells was a little worried of slipping!

Ormiston Gorge.....

This gorge however, lived up to it's reputation. We spent several hours exploring the beauty and wonder of this gorge.

Toli was even brave enough to go swimming at Ormiston Gorge.  I'd say the water was very near minus something!

We watched a dingo think about going fishing...I think it was too cold for him too

Ellory Creek Bighole

We were on a mad dash to get back to Mum at the hospital but managed the 2km bumpy ride to this gorge and a quick run down to have a peek.
