Nitmiluk National Park - June 16th - 19th
(Katherine Gorge)
I think I have found another favourite place on earth for me.  Nitmiluk was just beautiful.  The caravan park was pretty rustic but we liked that.  There was a pool so the kids were happy after our long hikes.  But the thing I loved - second to the natural beauty of the place - was the unpowered camping site so I pitched a tent across the road from the van and looked forward to a peaceful nights sleep for the first time in  weeks!  Those fridge motors and aircons can be pretty noisy.

This beauty of a Blue Winged Kooka was very interested in the high school boys playing rugby below.  Another decade on their ages and I would have been too!

Such colour and beauty from this Grevillea...

Bells loves the contrast in the rocks...

constant emu parades on our walks.

The creek running out to Butterfly Gorge...almost half way on our 12 km hike.

Bright bright red.....how many times can I say beautiful without it being too many?

                                                                                                    CRIKEY!

Love this shot - on the walk back to camp...only another 4 kms to go.

Agile Wallabies were a plenty around camp....this one had a joey in her pouch.

Mama at camp.

At the beginning of the Katherine Gorge cruise.
A croc cage.....glad to see it empty.

Aboriginal artwork at the 2nd gorge.

Had my big lens on so couldn't get the whole rock face but I had to get something.  Our guide told us it was called 'Jedda'......all four of us let out a sentimental sigh.

Some of the local wildlife.  The tree snake dropped in the river from 15 odd metres up the cliff face.

Native Hibiscus.

Chilly swimming at the 2nd Gorge.  Once your skin went numb it was beautiful in!

Bells can handle Toli getting a cuddle with out her....."what about me!"

Unfortunately due to the lack of frogs we didn't get to see Esmerelda :(

Beautiful Butterfly Gorge....a very refreshing swim. We all had our stomachs in our mouths for a while as the fear of crocodiles left us.

Poor Toli...still unable to swim due to his stitches but such a warm evening.  In goes his head after our 12 km walk!

Four days in Nitmiluk and we were off back to Katherine to stock up and head for Kununurra. If there were supplies at Nitmiluk we would have stayed for weeks!!!
